Important update: SERP Tracking depth now limited to top 30

On September 13th, Google made changes to how search results can be accessed programmatically. Until now, it was possible to fetch up to the top 100 results, but that is no longer the case. This adjustment impacts the entire SEO industry, not just Wincher.

Starting Thursday, September 18th, 2025, we are rolling out an update to how ranking data is tracked and stored in Wincher. From this release forward, Wincher will only return rankings up to position 30. This update also applies retroactively, which means results previously stored beyond position 30 will no longer appear in reports or exports.

Top 30 still matters the most

For many of you, this change will not significantly affect your day-to-day reporting. Here’s why:

  • User behavior: More than 99% of all clicks happen within the first three pages of results. The overwhelming majority are on the first page.
  • SEO strategy: Keywords beyond position 30 are often too far down to drive traffic or conversions. Tracking them adds noise rather than value.
  • Reporting clarity: By limiting visibility to the Top 30, your reports focus on the ranks that actually matter for performance and decision-making.

Think of it this way: if a keyword is currently at position 80, the immediate goal is not to monitor every small move but to focus on strategies that bring it into the Top 30 (and ultimately to the upper part of top 10).

FAQ: Your questions answered

Why is 30 the new position tracking depth?
Due to Google’s updated request structure, retrieving rankings beyond position 10 now comes with a significant cost increase. To maintain accuracy while balancing cost, we chose to provide results up to position 30 rather than stopping at position 20 as many of our competitors.

Will my old reports still show historical data beyond 30?
No. Data beyond position 30 is being removed from historical graphs, exports and reports and replaced with position 31 to ensure that all aggregated data is consistent with the new maximum tracking depth.

How does this affect average position?
By reducing the maximum depth from 100 to 30, the value used for average position calculations changes from 101 to 31. As a result, websites with many keyword positions above 30 will generally see their average position decrease.
